Thrift Shop Finds

In addition to my vintage window and large oil painting
I also found a few smaller things
A small grapevine wreath for 25 cents fits
on my 25 cent hurricane glass.
A cute cherry recipe box with
a red checked interior for 25 cents.
A red & black buffalo checked blanket
for $1.00
There were lots of other goodies that I
took home with me to Florida. See them HERE.
All these small thrift stores benefit local charities.
Support them by donating and shopping.
Plus it's lots of fun!

Master Bathroom

The last room to see is the master bathroom.
It's small but has lots of storage.
The tall storage cabinet is handy
right next to the sink.
Everything is easy to reach. I put a
large turntable on the bottom shelf.
Towels above and sheet sets below.
A large makeup drawer in the middle.
The light fixture above the mirror had a branch motif.
I used three folded napkins on a tension rod for a
quick valance on the small window.
I picked up bath accessories I found at Walmart.
Lantern style night light and soap dispenser.
The oil rubbed bronze finish matches the
towel bars and hardware.
This is one of my favorite watercolors.
I love snow scenes. I also love the Canadian geese
and the old fence. But most of all I love that it was
one of the first gifts from Larry.
I had admired it at a fall art show.
A thrift shop laundry basket.
My snow Canadian geese.
An antique file drawer holds extra washcloths
and bottles of aftershave.

Thrifty Oil Painting

Every once in a while I get lucky and find
an oil painting at a thrift store.
This was a large 30"x30"
I love the bold colors and brush strokes.
I found a place for it above the chest of
drawers in the bedroom
close-up
An original oil painting for $4.
All the money in this thrift shop
benefits a local charity.
'The Blessing Closet'  for Life  Challenge
Sylva, NC.

Old Vintage Window

Thrifting in North Carolina is always on my list.
My favorite find this week was this old window.
 It's all chippy and distressed.
One side was white.
Perfectly worn edges.
The other side was this vintage green color.
All I did was clean it.
I decided to use the old green side.
It looked a little plain. I wanted to add a
banner or bunting across the top but didn't
have the time or patience.
I grabbed some leaves I had picked up
and tucked them into the wire at the top.
I was going to remove the wire,
but as it turned out it came in handy.
My plan was to add it to the top of the
entertainment center.
before
 after
Replaced the other things on top.
 I really like it.
$5.00 for hours of fun!

Cheers!

The Road To The Pisgah Inn

We always take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway
during leaf season. We pick a bright sunny day.
The drive winds around the mountains.
 It has spectacular views.
It's a must every October.
Thru the Pisgah National Forest.
The highest elevation is 6053 feet.
We drive on to our destination.
The Pisgah Inn for lunch.
There's always a wait, but it's worth it.
(pictures thru a window do not do it justice)
We sit and look over miles and miles of mountain views.
Then take the drive down.

A perfect day in the mountains!

Small Vintage Painted Tin Trays

I found these painted tin trays last week at the
Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store in Bryson City, NC.
I thought they were just the right size to use as
snack plates for card games or
bread and butter plates at the table.
I'll add them to the leaf-strewn table.
I can't resist picking up fall leaves.

Cheers!

Over The River and Thru The Woods

Another of our favorites places to hike is in
Deep Creek.
It's at the entrance to the
Smoky Mountain National Park.
A beautiful trail that goes over many walking bridges.
Deep Creek is in Bryson City, NC.
This is the main trail. It's an easy hike.
It's very wide and and runs for a few miles.
It runs along the babbling creek.
It gets higher and a little more challenging further on.
There are several trails to choose from.
We met hikers that had been on the trail for two days.
They were loaded with rucksack
backpacks and gear for spending the night camping.
Our favorite is a trail that runs past this waterfall.
Some days the waterfall is really full.
Bright sunny day with blue sky.
A perfect day for a hike.
I remember how much my Mother loved visiting here.

Cheers!
