Mountain Golf

The Smoky Mountain Country Club course.
I don't play golf, but since our cabbage is in a golf community,
I thought I'd give it a try. How hard can it be? Ha!
I guess you could call the course challenging.
You can't even see over the hill when you tee off.
over the ridge
The hole is way down there...someplace!
Not the best spot.
Now, where's my ball?
Oops, lost that one.
I soon realized that the part I liked best was driving around the beautiful course in the cart and having lunch at the grill afterwards. Some evenings we'd have a happy hour drive with our drinks and take the cart through the course. We always see friends along the way. It's a beautiful path, through the woods and over the stream.

Cheers!

Summer Screen Door

What's a summer cabbage without a screen door? A screen door is a summer must-have.  It lets in more light and the summer breeze. Ah! and that summer sound of a screen door slamming shut!
This closed door does NOT say summer!
We found a wood screen door for under $20 at Home Depot. Larry stained it with leftover trim stain he got from the maintenance crew. He added the hardware and  installed it no time. I love it!
Even the doggies love looking out now.
It looks very nice at the front deck.
And it looks very nice from the inside too.
Let there be light!

North Carolina Hummingbirds

One of the first things I do when we get
to the cabbage is get the hummingbird feeders
out. I clean them and fill them with fresh nectar.
I have four feeders. Once they are hung on the
deck posts we have lots of hummingbirds everyday.
It's very hard to get a picture of one,
but they're here all day long.
That little grey blur on the left is a hummingbird.
I make my own nectar, so I always have it.

Hummingbird Nectar
Mix 1 part sugar to 4 parts water (1C sugar-4C water)
bring to a boil, then let cool
do not add red dye
fill feeders
change water, clean feeders weekly or more often as needed.

A Pool in The Mountains

A good place to be on a hot day is at the Smoky Mountain Country Club pool. Meet the neighbors, read a book, swim, and relax. We sometimes have our neighborhood pot-luck get together dinners here.

Summer on the deck

Relaxing on the deck
The perfect way to spend an afternoon.
Summer breeze.
Lots of privacy.
Lots of visits from hummingbirds.
Overlooking the railing.
Seeing an occasional golfer.
Off the guest room.
View of Clingmans Dome.
You get more of a mountain view in the fall
when the trees are not as full of leaves.
The lush green trees and the bright blue sky
is a daily pleasure here.

Dining Alfresco

We have all our meals on  the deck.
It's our favorite place to be.
Its a large deck off the back of the "cabbage".
At night we light the hurricane lamps and turn on the little white lights.
Larry hung them under the railing.
Set for dinner.
